Welcome to Songs of Earth

About the Website

What is this place?
"Songs of Earth" is a website dedicated to the appreciation of Battlestar Galactica through the medium of poetry. Here you will find poems written by fans, as well as the lyrics to the songs from the series' original soundtrack.

Why did you create it?
It all started with the third season finale. The adaptation of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" not only in the soundtrack but in the script itself captivated me. Until that  day I always knew that Television could be an art form just as much as any other medium, but for the first time since "The West Wing" did I actually consider a television show artistic, and the way Bear McCreary et al incorperated the entire thing boggled my mind. The only word I could think of to describe it was 'poetic'.
Some months later with the airing of "Guess what's Coming to Dinner", I was once again astounded with the way the music and lyrics were incorporated into the story, and the precise directing along with Bear's composition and lyrics - and not to mention Alessandro Juliani's singing, all penetrated my soul and gave me that urge artists often have when they need to express something and can not do so by words.
Unfortunately, I'm not much of an artist. Sure, I can play the guitar a little and perhaps even write a word or two, but I've never been much of a writer or a painter. My real knack is for computers, and so I did the only thing I could - I created a website and dedicated a website to the Poetry of Battlestar Galactica. At first it was meant to be a website featuring only Bear's original works - but in time I realized that they were all already featured on websites such as Battlestar Wiki, and so I decided to make more out of it and create a fan section as well, so that everyone can share their passion and love for the series.

Who are you, anyway?
My name is Elad Avron, I'm 24 years old and live in Israel. I will be starting my freshman year in the Haifa University this year, studying History and English Literature.

What about copyrights, they don't belong to you!
Well, of course they don't - but this site is not a commercial website and even has no ads. This site's sole purpose is to show appreciation and express my admiration to the poetry that is Battlestar Galactica. It's no different than quoting a dialog from the show.
In any case, before starting work on this website I emailed Bear McCreary asking for his permission to work on this website, and his response was short but affirmative.
